I think that everybody who works with Fedora Core noticed that software installation utility YUM hangs up sometimes. I happens for me after killing yum process during it downloads package or etc. Next time I start yum, it hangs up. Here are two commands to avoid this:

killall -9 yum #to kill stopped yum
rm /var/lib/rpm/__db.* #to prevent hanging up

After it’s done, yum will start normally.

    hi,
    it used to work fine earlier...suddenly started hanging
    so,
    i tried the above code...

    [root@bng-ui-vm-38 ~]# killall -9 yum
    yum: no process killed
    You have mail in /var/spool/mail/root
    [root@bng-ui-vm-38 ~]# rm /var/lib/rpm/__db.*
    rm: remove regular file `/var/lib/rpm/__db.001'? y
    rm: remove regular file `/var/lib/rpm/__db.002'? y
    rm: remove regular file `/var/lib/rpm/__db.003'? y
    rm: remove regular file `/var/lib/rpm/__db.004'? y
    [root@bng-ui-vm-38 ~]# yum -y install openldap
    Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit



    and it is stuck again like this...please help
