I'm extremely impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one nowadays..

Hi Heinrich,

It is difficult to say definitely why does the problem happen without more input data, but the easiest way is to move contents of /home/your_user/ to somewhere and try to login Gnome/KDE... After successful GUI login you'll be able to recover saved user's files.

Hi Ya

Seems like I can't configure my display.

I'm using Fedora core 9.

Recreantly played around with display settings, I can login within the GUI onto root, but not in my profile. What would be the problem and how do I go about fixing it?

Thanks a lot
Kind Regards
Heinrich Jansen van Vuuren

It looks once again, that the enhancements to Fedora are going to address the installation problems more then the end-user ergonomics. We only see some of the latter with KDE4 and a new Gnome. These new versions are welcome, and since Fedora is known as a bleeding edge distribution, one should wait one month or so after any Fedora version is released in order to do an upgrade or install.

As the linux application grows in complexity, the amount of interaction testing and diverse hardware testing for regression analysis and for just plain quality assurance needs to increase. What if Fedora was to be released every 7 months, where that extra month was given towards quality assurance. I would be glad to wait 30 days for a product where every software on it works "out of the box".
