NOTICE how there's almost always ONE SINGLE defacto standard for Windows... for each major type of software...?

Is there any way we could figure out which ONE is the "best of breed" for the Ubuntu alternative software...?

    Maybe highlight it in RED...?

Great list! Makes my switching to Ubuntu a lot easier.

On another note regarding Bruce Wagner's comment: I think that when you spend a couple of hundred dollars on a peace of software, one might not be too inclined to make another purchase for software that is similiar. However, most Linux apps are free. This makes it easier to experiment with apps that on the surface "do the same thing". In turn one can see the differences in apps and how how is better, faster or easier at a particular task over one another.

I speak from expirience because when i spent my money on frontpage 2003 i was not interested in how things where done in dreamweaver. Frontpage could do (at that time) everything Dreamweaver could. was dreamweaver better? I see now that it could've been. But i had already spent my money and did not want to throw that out and then go spend more.

Wow. That is another --- and a very insightful, new, and excellent --- argument for free open source software.

sure wish that the linux / ubuntu world would look at the software for amateur radio operators and work on ubuntu versions. we have to run VMware now as all of out logging and contest software is windows based. and VISTA is killing us.

more of us everyday are looking to switch OS from windows to ubuntu OS

    Thanks

    Tony
